That Pedro Sierra proved that he is a great at the Granada Guitar Festival is no longer surprising, because he is always perfect. But for this genius to do it without the amplifier is not only an exception in this kind of festival, but also thrilled an appreciative audience for the gesture.
Pedro Sierra performed on the evening of 4 August in the gardens of the beautiful palace of the Casa de los Pisa as part of the Granada Guitar Festival. And with him, a magnificent concert in which everything was “al natural”, as in a square, because he disconnected the amplifier. The farruca, the soleá, the granaína… They sounded, really, much better.
It is understandable that he is called “the absolute guitarist”. Let them say that his playing is precise and refined and that he is a master of both the traditional and the most innovative Palo.
Pedro Sierra, a master touch
Of Catalan origin, he began to stand out as a guitar accompanist in his homeland. In the Peña “Tertulia Flamenca de Hospitalet” and the dance academy “Flora Albaicín” is where he forged his career as a guitarist accompanying all the enthusiasts of the city. At only eleven years of age, he was playing with cante figures such as Chocolate and Sordera de Jerez.
In the mid-1980s, he moved to Seville, where he became a guitarist for flamenco singers such as Carmen Linares, María Vargas, Potito, La Tobala and La Susi.
However, it has been in the accompaniment of dance where Sierra has stood out in a singular way, as with Farruco, Manuel Soler or Manuela Carrasco.
Likewise, Pedro Sierra is the author of the albums Decisión ( 2001), Nikelao (2005), El toque flamenco ( 2012) or Técnicas de la guitarra (2015), among other productions. He has produced more than 100 works for different record companies and has directed artists from both flamenco and other genres: Manuel Lombo, Los Chunguitos, Camela, Manuel Valencia, Manuel Parrilla, Dani de Morón…
