The Camarón Museum will finally open its doors in the capital city where the famous cantaor was born. In this way, the city of San Fernando culminates the pending debt with the followers of the artist, his family and his own legacy. A singular and architecturally original space to admire the cantaor that, after delays for multiple reasons, will be inaugurated to coincide with the anniversary of his death from cancer on July 2nd, 1992.
What is the Camarón Museum like?
The Camarón de la Isla Museum presents a journey through the artist's life, an audiovisual experience that begins in the square presided over by his statue. The location could not be any other: next to the mythical Venta de Vargas, the place where he grew up as a cantaor.
On two floors, totaling 1,200 square meters, there are three areas that cover Camarón's life: Origin, Legend and Revolution. On the first floor you can see the Mercedes 300D, a vehicle owned by José Monje Cruz, restored for this permanent exhibition. There is also a documentary space to consult the bibliography, videos and audios of the cantaor.
An essential visit to get to know José Monje
Both for Camarón's followers and for those who want to discover him now, this museum allows visitors to get to know the artist from his childhood to his maturity as an artist. It is a cultural space to learn about the evolution of flamenco and the position of José Monje Cruz in the history of this art.
It is an essential visit and a source of pride for the city where he was born and which owed him a well-deserved and lasting recognition in history.
Thus, Camarón de la Isla or José Monje, the transgressor and revolutionary cantaor who put San Fernando on the map, now has an innovative and powerful cultural space of which we are sure he would be very proud.
