Miguel Poveda's singing and Lorca's poems come together for the cantaor's new tour
The Flamenco On Fire Festival launched 'Cantes y poemas del cante jondo', Poveda's new work that combines Lorca's poems with flamenco singing.

The tenth edition of Flamenco On Fire kicked off with Miguel Poveda, with all the tickets sold for his date with the Baluarte Auditorium. He did it with a unique show in his 2023 tour: 'Cantes y poemas del cante jondo', accompanied on stage by Jesús Guerrero (guitar), Paquito González (percussion), El Londro (backing vocals and hand clapping), Carlos Grilo (hand clapping) and Sonia Poveda (dancing).
It does so, moreover, in the wake of the centenary of the Granada Cante Jondo Contest, a contest that changed the history of this genre and with which Lorca was highly involved.
The show
Miguel Poveda proposed in this show an intimate journey to his singing and the work of the poet from Fuente Vaqueros, which he has adapted in albums such as 'Enlorquecido' and 'Sonetos y poemas para la libertad', among others.
He makes music with the text to resignify the word itself, harmonizing verses like these:
"When pure forms sank
under the cri cri of the daisies,
I understood that I had been murdered.
They toured the cafés and the cemeteries and the churches,
they opened the barrels and the closets,
they tore apart three skeletons to pull out their gold teeth.
They couldn't find me anymore.
The cantaor, one of the greatest figures of music in Spanish in recent decades, has stressed that "it is my very special start of tour for Flamenco On Fire, with poems by Federico in a first part and a second in the form of a recital with luxury companions".
With a bulería al golpe, 'Paisaje', he started his concert in which he offered a recital of flamenco styles: soleá por bulería, tangos, cabales, toná, siguirilla, málaga and abandolaos, petenera, alegría and he closed with a well-known bulería 'Mi jerez te tengo que querer'.
