The story of Scheherazade
By Sheherezade, as María Pagés explains, explores the classical music repertoire, with a special focus on Moroccan music. Thus, he works with the scores, reinterprets and adapts classical fragments to flamenco. But it is based on what Rubén Levaniegos composed with Sergio Ménem and David Moñiz, directed by María Pagés. The music is performed by a string and percussion quartet, an Arabic voice and two flamenco voices.
And, speaking of the story of the libretto, it revolves around 13 women who storm the stage “of life”. They all possess a strong uniqueness and, at the same time, think as a group beyond physical, ethnic, religious, cultural, or aesthetic differences.
For María Pagés, it is a powerful narrative constructed with choral solos and choreographies that are perfectly woven together. With this work he won the Talía Award for Best Show of 2022.
She has also been in charge of the costume design, set design, and musical direction, as well as directing the show together with El Arbi El Harti.
