n November, a 1905 sailing ship will travel from Cartagena to Cadiz in the first known Flemish experience at sea.

Experiencia flamenca en un velero

Of course, the proposal of travelling on this ship to emblematic flamenco venues, dining with first-class performances or chatting with other fans of Andalusian art on deck is most appealing. If you are also told that the key artists of the shows inside the boat are Ricardo Fernández del Moral and Ofelia Márquez, the flamenco experience becomes a wish to be fulfilled as soon as possible.

The idea came from a company called Oceanosophia, which specialises in themed adventures at sea, with the collaboration of SOL-A-NA, which is a well-known production company in the field of flamenco (they are responsible for the Flamenco Real tablao, the one in Madrid’s Teatro Real).

How is this flamenco experience

Everything is taken care of in detail. We have already told you who the Flemish figures are that accompany the “sailors”, but the sailing ship is a historical marvel. It is a brigantine, a 1905 lightship operating out of Hamburg. In 1985 it retired from this task, ending up in 2005 in the hands of its current owners, who have left it in luxury. Its capacity is 140 passengers in day navigation and 36 passengers in overnight accommodation, distributed in 18 double cabins.

The itinerary begins in Cartagena and ends in Cádiz, passing through Almería and Málaga, or in other words, from the cantes mineros to the alegrías, navigating along the way through the tarantos and the malagueñas. In each port there will be a performance related to these palos. To summarise, the basic programme would be as follows:

1 Nov. Cartagena (Alviento)
3 Nov. Almeria
4 Nov. Malaga
6 Nov. Cadiz

During the trip: performances by the flamenco troupe on board + talk/colloquium/show every day lasting 1.5 hours.

At the moment, the first trip is from 1 to 8 November 2023 and there are still places available. The price? 2,960 euros per person in a shared cabin.
