Joaquín Amador died suddenly at his home in Seville while he was rehearsing with his guitar. He was the husband of the bailaora Manuela Carrasco, to whom he dedicated the last stage of his career.
The death of this great guitarist of flamenco lineage has brought the family into great sadness once again after the death of his sister, the cantaora nicknamed “La Susi”, in 2020.
Joaquín was the son of the guitarist José María Amador and is an artist of great prestige in the world of flamenco. He had been at Manuela’s side for almost half a century, to whom he dedicated his work almost exclusively.
The condolences and words of support for his wife and his family and friends have not been long in coming. The Andalusian Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bernal, wrote on Twitter: “Joaquín Amador died embracing the instrument that had accompanied him all his life. May this exceptional guitarist rest in peace. My condolences to his widow, Manuela Carrasco, family and friends. A great loss for flamenco”.
The Bienal de Flamenco added on the same social network: “Her toque, as well as accompanying Manuela Carrasco’s dancing, is part of the living history of la Bienal”. He also published some beautiful words the Federation of University Gypsy Women’s Associations (Fakali): “Amador was a prestigious guitarist who was always by his wife’s side, an exceptional artist has left us, as has his whole family”.
Miguel Povedapublished: “.My love to all the Amador/Carrasco family for the sudden loss of the guitarist and husband of the great Manuela Carrasco, Joaquín Amador. (…) Rest in Peace”.
