More than 100 artists will perform in the flamenco peñas of the seven Andalusian provinces between May and November 2023.
The work of the peñas in disseminating Andalusian culture and, specifically, flamenco, is recognised by the Junta de Andalucía and its relevant ministries in various ways. One of them, pending what the new regional flamenco law will bring, is the promotion of circuits of cante, baile and guitar recitals in Andalusian peñas (103 performances in total until November 2023).
In this way, flamenco reaches all corners of Andalusia and promotes new talents. The Andalusian Flamenco Institute has also stressed the importance of incorporating new members to the peñas to ensure their future strength.
This programme is endorsed by the Andalucía-flamenco brand of the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco, with the collaboration of the administrations of the seven Andalusian provinces.
The Peñas Circuit and the Junta’s subsidies
The circuits of the Andalusian peñas, which have been held since 2017, are a grain of sand to the needs of these associations of flamenco art lovers. These include, as a matter of urgency, the rejuvenation of its members. Of course, also for the financial support to these non-professional associations.
In this regard, the Junta de Andalucía has three types of subsidies in the field of flamenco promotion since 2018: to the professional flamenco network, to the associative network and to small and medium-sized flamenco festivals. They therefore include the peñas.
