“Año Camarón 2026” kicks off as the most ambitious flamenco tribute ever held, featuring twelve months of concerts, exhibitions, reissues, and cultural activities
In 2026, flamenco lovers around the globe will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Camarón de la Isla’s birth. His hometown, San Fernando (Cádiz), is preparing a year-long celebration under the name “Año Camarón 2026” — a powerful homage to one of the most influential artists in flamenco history. From December 2025 to December 2026, the city will become the world capital of flamenco, hosting performances, awards, tributes, and immersive cultural experiences.
An unprecedented collaboration to honor a legend
The initiative is led by the City Council of San Fernando, in partnership with major music and cultural players including Universal Music Spain, GTS (Global Talent Services), and Westin Mayer Entertainment. Together, they’ve launched a cultural and artistic roadmap combining legacy, innovation, and education, with an international outlook.
Through this alliance, San Fernando aims to position itself as the epicenter of modern flamenco, drawing both long-time aficionados and new audiences to rediscover the voice that forever changed the course of the cante.

Camarón Experience: immersive flamenco, reimagined
One of the major highlights will be the launch of the Camarón Experience: a permanent, state-of-the-art immersive exhibit within the Camarón Museum. Featuring 360º projections, augmented reality, archival material, personal artifacts, and digital storytelling, this new space will offer visitors a deep, sensory journey through the life and artistry of Camarón.
Designed with inspiration from world-class music museums such as the ABBA Museum (Stockholm) and David Bowie’s exhibitions, the Camarón Experience aims to blend technology with flamenco tradition in an unforgettable format.
The Camarón Route: a walk through history
A new cultural route will guide visitors through key sites in Camarón’s early life: his birthplace, neighborhood, favorite spots, and local flamenco venues. This “Camarón Trail” will transform San Fernando into an open-air museum, featuring interactive signs, QR codes, maps, and on-site performances.
This initiative not only honors the memory of the artist, but also fosters cultural tourism, helping locals and visitors connect with the story of Camarón in a tangible and emotional way.

Camarón Awards: a new flamenco benchmark
2026 will also see the launch of the Camarón Awards, honoring excellence in four categories: Flamenco Singing (Cante), Dance, Guitar, and Innovation. The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for July 2, 2026, at the historic Teatro de las Cortes in San Fernando.
As part of the celebrations, a large-scale tribute concert will follow the next day, continuing the tradition of gathering flamenco greats on Camarón’s anniversary.
Live concerts and a grand finale in Madrid
The celebration will feature flamenco concerts throughout the year, with special emphasis in spring and summer. The most anticipated event will take place on December 1, 2026, at Movistar Arena in Madrid — a multi-artist mega-show featuring iconic performers and rising talents.
This concert will mark the culmination of a year filled with tributes, reaffirming Camarón’s place as the eternal voice of flamenco.

Reissues, rare recordings and global legacy
Universal Music Spain will spearhead an extensive campaign to reissue Camarón’s recordings in vinyl, cassette, collector’s editions and digital formats. The initiative will include remastered classics, previously unreleased material, and curated collections for new audiences.
Exclusive playlists, limited merchandise, documentaries and deluxe box sets will also be produced, offering a fresh perspective on Camarón’s groundbreaking discography.
Cultural activities, workshops and educational focus
Beyond music, Año Camarón will include masterclasses, roundtables, workshops, artist talks, photo exhibitions, film screenings, and academic forums, aimed at students, musicians and the wider community.
This educational program will highlight flamenco as a living, evolving cultural heritage — with Camarón as its most transformative icon.
2026: a year to rediscover Camarón with new eyes
Año Camarón 2026 will not just celebrate the past — it will inspire the future. With a program that blends memory, art, education and innovation, San Fernando will pay tribute to a flamenco genius whose legacy transcends generations and borders.
