Alzapúa is the motto of Flamenco On Fire 2023, so the guitar has been the protagonist of a festival that, on the other hand, is dedicated from its origin to Sabicas. The great moment, without a doubt, has been given by Tomatito when playing with his son The Legend of Time, the theme that reflects that perfect duo he formed with Camar ́ ́on de la Isla.
They had never been on stage together before. Rycardo Moreno has been commissioned to direct David de Arahal, José del Tomate, Alejandro Hurtado and Víctor Franco in the recital Alzapúa. It has been the great bet of Flamenco On Fire 2023, the second own production of this tenth edition.
It was a show in which the different aspects of the contemporary flamenco guitar sounded, developing the concert instrument, casting a look at the masters of the past. This was, for example, the rondeña of Ramon Montoya played by Hurtado. Sabicas, Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar, Serranito, Pepe Habichuela… The past, present and future with the singing of Sandra Carrasco and Fernanda Peña, and the dancer Gema Moneo.
More moments to the touch in Flamenco On Fire 2023
One day before the recital Alzapúa, Vicente Soto Sordera and Vicente Santiago, singing and guitar, climbed the balcony of the city hall of Pamplona before a full square. La Kaíta and Juan Vargas, these with Extremaduran airs, acted immediately afterwards from the balcony of the Hotel La Perla. In Palacio Ezpeleta, La Tana and Pepe Habichuela, a unique generational meeting that aroused enormous interest from critics and fans, managed to complete the capacity of this enclave: a thousand people.
The ambassador of Flamenco On Fire, Habichuela, accompanied the complaint of the Sevillian who one day dazzled Paco de Lucía with his expression in styles such as taranta, soleá and bulería. A recital to which were added the palms of Antonio ‘El Pescaito’ and Santiago Cristi and the touch of José del Tomate, who climbed the tables as a guest artist.
The nice surprise would come on August 26.Tomatito returned to the balcony of the town hall of Pamplona to leave a historical imagealong with his guitar, that of his son, José del Tomate, and the singers Morenito de Íllora and Kiki Cortiñas. Touched The Legend of Time, the song he shared with Camarón de la Isla. Right after, Segundo Falcón, accompanied by Paco Jarana, showed his wisdom at the Hotel La Perla in styles such as bulería, jaleo and fandangos, also causing enormous interest in the hundreds of spectators who came to see the proposal.
Tablao On Fire, on the 28th, was for the veteran. This is one of the liveliest sections of Flamenco On Fire. Cancanilla from Malaga, Enrique Pantoja from Jerez and Yeye from Cádiz took the stage. On guitar, Rafael Rodríguez El Cabeza. Natural art forged through the centuries and almost in danger of extinction since its very birth. On the balconies, the master of Jerez Luis El Zambo and the bajañí of Domingo Rubichi were protagonists of the morning.
