In 2023, the Cordoba City Council rescued a historic corral house from oblivion to give a home to Fosforito’s work and to flamenco.
The Centro de Flamenco Fosforito is a multidisciplinary space dedicated to the dissemination of flamenco and the figure of the flamenco singer Antonio Fernández Fosforito. It is promoted by Cordoba City Council.
It is located in the Plaza del Potro, specifically, in the premises of the former Posada del Potro, a 15th century farmhouse declared an artistic monument.
After its refurbishment, since this former inn and house was abandoned, the Posada del Potro has preserved its interior practically intact. The courtyard and stables, the high gallery, with its railings, supports and wooden canopy, and its small rooms, have remained almost untouched after six hundred years.
This inn is universally popular. Throughout its history, it has served as inspiration for writers such as Francisco de Quevedo and Miguel de Cervantes, who mentions it in Don Quixote.
A song to Fosforito
Throughout the eight rooms, flamenco and its “cordobesa” history is told as in the lyrics of a flamenco song. And the so-called Sala del Maestro, that of Fosforito, is the refrain. It contains a large part of the legacy that the cantaor has left to the city of Cordoba. Among the numerous objects, precious texts, historical photographs and awards he has received throughout his career, such as the Llave de Oro del cante, which he received in 2005.
A patio to experience flamenco
One of the spaces that generates most interest (in addition to that of the master’s mementoes) is the Sala de Cabales. It is the only one that overlooks the Plaza del Potro and has a multi-purpose character. Throughout the year, it hosts recitals in cycles such as Matinales Flamencas or Trasteando con la guitarra flamenca that extend to this open-air courtyard. There are also lectures, talks, colloquiums, presentations, video projections and exhibitions of various kinds.
