La Isla Ciudad Flamenca<\/strong> will hold the first edition of its Flamenco-Jazz Seminar<\/strong> in San Fernando (C\u00e1diz)<\/strong> from August 17 to 20, 2026<\/strong>, as a new educational initiative within the program of the 11th La Isla Ciudad Flamenca Festival<\/strong>. The in-person seminar will be led academically by Antonio Lizana<\/strong> and Ismael Alcina<\/strong>, bringing together some of the most prominent names in today\u2019s flamenco-jazz scene.<\/p>\n

The project has been created as a space for training, artistic exchange, and shared experience around the dialogue between flamenco and jazz, two musical languages that have given rise to some of the most compelling developments in contemporary Spanish music. The seminar is aimed both at instrumentalists seeking to expand their technical and expressive resources and at listeners interested in following this educational experience from within.<\/p>\n

One of the main attractions of this first edition will be its teaching staff. Leading the seminar will be Antonio Lizana<\/strong>, the saxophonist, singer, and composer from San Fernando who has become one of the most recognizable figures in the new flamenco-jazz movement from southern Spain. His international career and his ability to bring together flamenco tradition, improvisation, and a contemporary sensibility make him a key reference in this field.<\/p>\n

He will be joined by Chano Dom\u00ednguez<\/strong>, pianist, composer, and an undisputed pioneer of flamenco-jazz. His name is essential to understanding the development of this musical language over recent decades, thanks to a career defined by innovation, international projection, and a strong commitment to teaching.<\/p>\n

The faculty will also include Rycardo Moreno<\/strong>, guitarist, composer, and producer from Lebrija, whose artistic personality and distinctive musical voice have made him one of the most singular figures in contemporary flamenco guitar. His career as a solo artist and his constant sonic exploration bring a highly personal perspective to the seminar.<\/p>\n

Alongside him will be Ismael Alcina<\/strong>, a bassist, composer, educator, and researcher from C\u00e1diz, with extensive experience both on stage and in the studio. His work within flamenco-jazz, together with his teaching and academic research, strengthens the seminar\u2019s educational dimension and its connection to contemporary creation.<\/p>\n

Completing the teaching team is Guillermo McGill<\/strong>, the Uruguayan drummer, percussionist, composer, and producer based in Spain, widely regarded as one of the most important musicians in the fusion of jazz and flamenco. Maestros del I Seminario de Flamenco-Jazz “La Isla Ciudad Flamenca”<\/p><\/div>\n

The program includes an opening session on the afternoon of August 17<\/strong>, while classes will take place on August 18, 19, and 20<\/strong>, in morning and afternoon sessions, at C. E. M. Chelista Ruiz Casaux<\/strong>. In addition, jam sessions<\/strong> and a final concert<\/strong> will be held each evening from August 17 to 20<\/strong> at Sugar Caf\u00e9<\/strong>. Some details regarding schedules and venues will be confirmed by the organizers at a later date.<\/p>\n

The seminar will offer two participation options. The instrumentalist modality<\/strong> is priced at 200 euros<\/strong>, with an early registration fee of 160 euros<\/strong> for those who register before July 1, 2026<\/strong>. This option includes instrumental lessons, combo classes, masterclasses, technical material, the students\u2019 final concert, and access to the jam sessions organized during the seminar.<\/p>\n

The listener modality<\/strong> is priced at 80 euros<\/strong>, or 60 euros<\/strong> with early registration, and includes in-person access to all educational activities without active participation.<\/p>\n

With this new initiative, La Isla Ciudad Flamenca<\/strong> strengthens its educational profile and expands the scope of a festival that continues to establish San Fernando<\/strong> as one of the reference spaces for contemporary flamenco.
