One of the main drivers of this talent is guitarist and luthier <strong data-start=\"653\" data-end=\"670\">Rafael Romero<\/strong>, who represents the link between the old and new guitar traditions in our city, and has become a benchmark in teaching this blessed instrument. Over time, through his dedication and craftsmanship, he has helped foster a new generation of guitarists who place La Isla at the epicenter of flamenco guitar. Many of these guitarists accompany today\u2019s top artists \u2014 among them, <strong data-start=\"1044\" data-end=\"1062\">Jes\u00fas Guerrero<\/strong>, who plays with <strong data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1096\">Miguel Poveda<\/strong>; <strong data-start=\"1098\" data-end=\"1115\">Manuel Urbina<\/strong>, with <strong data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1138\">Ni\u00f1a Pastori<\/strong>; or <strong data-start=\"1143\" data-end=\"1154\">El Pelu<\/strong>, now guitarist for <strong data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1187\">El Barrio<\/strong>, as previously was Juani de La Isla. One of the guitarists, <strong data-start=\"1248\" data-end=\"1266\">Adriano Lozano<\/strong>, composed the current theme for ALL FLAMENCO.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1316\" data-end=\"1798\">The day of flamenco was the ideal occasion to inaugurate the proposal \u201cGuitarristas de La Isla,\u201d a photographic exhibition without precedent, presenting twenty-nine island\u2011born guitarists from different eras in diverse settings around the city \u2014 among them, the workshop of Rafael Romero and the Galer\u00eda de Arte Era stand out. The photographs are by the shutter of <strong data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1699\">Juan A. Bernal<\/strong>, who managed with his lens to capture magical moments that are now part of our flamenco history.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1800\" data-end=\"1910\">Below is a brief reference for each of the 29 guitarists featured in the exhibition \u201cGuitarristas de La Isla\u201d:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1912\" data-end=\"2459\"><strong data-start=\"1912\" data-end=\"1929\">Rafael Romero<\/strong><br data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1932\" \/>Considered a pioneer of the new guitar school of La Isla. His masters were Chano de las Flores and Rafael Escudier. He began playing at age 12 and soon began accompanying singing and dance. He was guitarist for the dance academies of Concha Baras and Pepa Pe\u00f1a. He started teaching, giving classes to the guitarists V\u00edctor Rosa, Juan Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez and Juani de La Isla, who would go on to train the next generation of guitarists. In 1985 he began building guitars, becoming over time one of the most valued luthiers today.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1912\" data-end=\"2459\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-408883 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/allflamenco.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Rafael-Romero-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"989\" height=\"642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/allflamenco.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Rafael-Romero-1.jpg 989w, https:\/\/allflamenco.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Rafael-Romero-1-980x636.jpg 980w, https:\/\/allflamenco.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Rafael-Romero-1-480x312.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 989px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2982\"><strong data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2481\">Ram\u00f3n de La Isla<\/strong><br data-start=\"2481\" data-end=\"2484\" \/>The most noteworthy guitarist of his era, he began guitar playing under Rafael Escudier and Capinetti. A regular at the Tertulia Flamenca, he accompanied \u2014 among others \u2014 Chato de La Isla, Perro de Paterna, Aguilar de Vejer and even Camar\u00f3n. He was one of the first guitarists from the island to travel abroad and to appear on television programs, where he accompanied El Ni\u00f1o del Parque and Paquito de La Isla. He recorded two albums, one with Perro de Paterna and another with Aguilar de Vejer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2984\" data-end=\"3348\"><strong data-start=\"2984\" data-end=\"2999\">V\u00edctor Rosa<\/strong><br data-start=\"2999\" data-end=\"3002\" \/>He was the first student of Rafael Romero to become a professional. He accompanied Sara Baras at her beginnings and Ni\u00f1a Pastori. Regular as the official guitarist at singing contests. Over his long professional career he has worked with India Mart\u00ednez, David DeMar\u00eda, Marif\u00e9 de Triana, Manzanita, Antonio Canales, Vanesa Mart\u00edn, and many more.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3350\" data-end=\"3762\"><strong data-start=\"3350\" data-end=\"3368\">Adriano Lozano<\/strong><br data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3371\" \/>At age 12 he began lessons with Ram\u00f3n de La Isla and, years later, received technical advice from Manolo Sanl\u00facar. At 15 he debuted at the Tertulia Flamenca as the official guitarist for the competition\u2019s ten national singing contests. Since then, his collaborations with artists like Ni\u00f1a Pastori, Jos\u00e9 Merc\u00e9, Antonio Lizana, Pasi\u00f3n\u202fVega, Javier Ruibal, among others, have been countless.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3764\" data-end=\"4141\"><strong data-start=\"3764\" data-end=\"3789\">Juan Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong><br data-start=\"3789\" data-end=\"3792\" \/>One of the first pupils of Rafael Romero. He continued his training with Jos\u00e9 Luis Balao in Jerez and with Jos\u00e9 A. Rodr\u00edguez in C\u00f3rdoba. At 15 he made his professional debut. After accompanying countless artists, he released his first work <em data-start=\"4032\" data-end=\"4042\">Guerrero<\/em>. He combines his artistic activity with teaching at his own school \u201cGuitarra Flamenca de C\u00e1diz.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4143\" data-end=\"4632\"><strong data-start=\"4143\" data-end=\"4163\">Juani de La Isla<\/strong><br data-start=\"4163\" data-end=\"4166\" \/>Student of Rafael Romero, he continued his formation with Manolo de Sanl\u00facar and passed through Mor\u00f3n de la Frontera. Son of the singer Aguilar de Vejer, from whom he learned everything about the canto world. He has worked with Chato de La Isla, Jos\u00e9 Merc\u00e9, Juan Villar, Sara Baras and many others. For many years he was guitarist and musical director of El Barrio. Currently, he lives and works in the U.S., where he is admired and respected as one of the greats.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4634\" data-end=\"4941\"><strong data-start=\"4634\" data-end=\"4650\">Gabino P\u00e9rez<\/strong><br data-start=\"4650\" data-end=\"4653\" \/>Student of Ram\u00f3n de La Isla, he completed his formation in Jerez with Manuel Lozano \u201cEl Carbonero.\u201d He played in the dance academies of Concha Baras and Carmen y Pepa Pe\u00f1a, being among the first guitarists to accompany Sara Baras and Ni\u00f1a Pastori. He even shared the stage with Camar\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4943\" data-end=\"5185\"><strong data-start=\"4943\" data-end=\"4960\">Manolo Garc\u00eda<\/strong><br data-start=\"4960\" data-end=\"4963\" \/>One of the fundamental pillars of flamenco guitar teaching in La Isla. He has taught generations, including Manuel Urbina, Daniel Ram\u00edrez, Dani Bommatti, Paco Fontao, Javi Mart\u00edn and many more young talents from La Isla.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5187\" data-end=\"5604\"><strong data-start=\"5187\" data-end=\"5205\">Jes\u00fas Guerrero<\/strong><br data-start=\"5205\" data-end=\"5208\" \/>Student of V\u00edctor Rosa, he completed his training in Jerez. From a very young age he stood out as a guitarist. In Seville he worked in tablaos and soon his name gained prominence. He has worked with Miguel Poveda, Ni\u00f1a Pastori, Marina Heredia, Carmen Linares, Farruquito and Eva La\u202fYerbabuena. In 2016 he recorded his first solo work <em data-start=\"5542\" data-end=\"5549\">Calma<\/em>, and in 2025, together with Alba Carmona, <em data-start=\"5592\" data-end=\"5601\">Ofrenda<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5606\" data-end=\"6016\"><strong data-start=\"5606\" data-end=\"5625\">Nico Cotariella<\/strong><br data-start=\"5625\" data-end=\"5628\" \/>Guitarist from the neighborhood of Las Callejuelas, he began playing with Jos\u00e9 Baiz\u00e1n \u201cEl Lagarto\u201d and Jos\u00e9 Armario \u201cLete\u201d. In the neighborhood\u2019s g\u00fcichis he started accompanying Paquito de La Isla, El Ni\u00f1o del Parque and Pijote. In flamenco dance, he has collaborated since the beginning with the academies Marisma and Cumbre Flamenca. Founding partner of the Pe\u00f1a del Chato de La Isla.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6018\" data-end=\"6489\"><strong data-start=\"6018\" data-end=\"6038\">Jaime de La Isla<\/strong><br data-start=\"6038\" data-end=\"6041\" \/>Took some classes with Juani de La Isla. He began in the city\u2019s rociero choirs and soon began collaborating with the dance academy of Luc\u00eda Moreno and Carmen Pe\u00f1a. He participated in the show <em data-start=\"6233\" data-end=\"6242\">Paquiro<\/em> by Javier Mar\u00edn, making the jump to international level. He has accompanied singers and dancers countless times. Regular guitarist of the company of David Nieto and indispensable collaborator in tablaos such as Flamenco de la Cava and La Cueva.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6491\" data-end=\"6875\"><strong data-start=\"6491\" data-end=\"6507\">Manuel Lucas<\/strong><br data-start=\"6507\" data-end=\"6510\" \/>Student of Rafael Romero. At 15 he began to accompany dance classes in academies. He was one of the founders of \u201cMa\u00edta vende c\u00e1.\u201d As a studio musician he has worked on records of Chano Lobato, Pastora Soler, Alejandro Sanz, Raphael and David Bisbal, among others. With his wife, dancer Milagros Ventura, they conduct courses on a national and international level.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6877\" data-end=\"7208\"><strong data-start=\"6877\" data-end=\"6891\">Pelu Monje<\/strong><br data-start=\"6891\" data-end=\"6894\" \/>Nephew of Camar\u00f3n de la Isla, he grew up listening to flamenco daily. Student of Rafael Romero, he began playing guitar at age 12. He accompanied dance at the Concha Baras Academy. He began his training with Manolo Garc\u00eda and Juani de La Isla. A child prodigy of the guitar, he very soon made the jump to the professional level. He worked with Antonio Rey and from there with some of the greatest artists. Currently, he is guitarist for Ni\u00f1a Pastori.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7546\" data-end=\"8039\"><strong data-start=\"7546\" data-end=\"7567\">Faluki de La Isla<\/strong><br data-start=\"7567\" data-end=\"7570\" \/>His first teacher was his father, Faluco. Later he studied with Juan Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez, with whom he began in the world of show business and has not stopped working with musicians and artists of the level of La Barber\u00eda del Sur, El Barrio, Cherokee, Canelita, Alonso Rancapino, Antonio Reyes, Mar\u00eda Carrasco, Jes\u00fas Castilla, El Capullo de Jerez, Pepe de Luc\u00eda, La Susi, Diego del Morao, Vicente Amigo, among others. Currently he forms an artistic duo with To\u00f1i Romero.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8041\" data-end=\"8332\"><strong data-start=\"8041\" data-end=\"8057\">David Cuevas<\/strong><br data-start=\"8057\" data-end=\"8060\" \/>Student of Manuel Jero \u201cJerito,\u201d El Carbonero and Balao. He has oriented his musical career toward composition, working with publishing houses such as Warner, Sony or Universal. He has composed for Andy y Lucas and Mar\u00eda Carrasco. Currently, he lives and works in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8334\" data-end=\"8581\"><strong data-start=\"8334\" data-end=\"8354\">Antonio Carrillo<\/strong><br data-start=\"8354\" data-end=\"8357\" \/>He started with David Cuevas and oriented his career as a music producer and sound engineer. He has his own recording studio where he has worked with Yerai Blanco, Mesalla, Javier Beliz\u00f3n and Anto\u00f1ito Molina, among others.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8583\" data-end=\"8772\"><strong data-start=\"8583\" data-end=\"8601\">Javi de Carmen<\/strong><br data-start=\"8601\" data-end=\"8604\" \/>Student of Rafael Romero since age 8. He obtained his professional degree at the Conservatory. Today he combines live performance, teaching and session musician work.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8774\" data-end=\"9159\"><strong data-start=\"8774\" data-end=\"8793\">Manuel Bommatti<\/strong><br data-start=\"8793\" data-end=\"8796\" \/>He began his musical training at a very young age under professor Luis P\u00e1ez. He later approached the world of jazz, thanks to guitarist Nono Garc\u00eda, and completed professional studies of classical guitar at the Conservatorio Manuel de Falla, with the great professor Mercedes Rodr\u00edguez Carmona. Currently, he continues his training under professor F\u00e9lix Santos.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9161\" data-end=\"9613\"><strong data-start=\"9161\" data-end=\"9180\">Daniel Bommatti<\/strong><br data-start=\"9180\" data-end=\"9183\" \/>A versatile artist who combines guitar playing with singing, composing and performing. His training began under his father and guitarist Manolo Garc\u00eda. He continued with Rom\u00e1n Vicenti, Roberto Sabater, Luis Balaguer and Miguel Arag\u00f3n, among others, and was later awarded a scholarship at the Cristina Heeren Foundation. In his career, he had the privilege of accompanying artists like Alejandro Sanz (at the Latin Grammys gala).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9615\" data-end=\"9948\"><strong data-start=\"9615\" data-end=\"9633\">Daniel Ram\u00edrez<\/strong><br data-start=\"9633\" data-end=\"9636\" \/>He started playing guitar at age 13 under Manolo Garc\u00eda and later with Juan Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez. Currently he is studying at the Superior Conservatory of Music of C\u00f3rdoba \u201cRafael Orozco.\u201d In 2017 he joined the flamenco company of the Jerez dancer Antonio El Pipa, performing in numerous theaters around the world.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9950\" data-end=\"10233\"><strong data-start=\"9950\" data-end=\"9965\">Javi Mart\u00edn<\/strong><br data-start=\"9965\" data-end=\"9968\" \/>He began with Manolo Garc\u00eda, who prepared him for enrollment in the conservatory, where he obtained his professional title in flamenco guitar. He has performed as a soloist, accompanying flamenco singing and dancing, carrying out national and international tours.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"10235\" data-end=\"10625\"><strong data-start=\"10235\" data-end=\"10248\">Tito Lara<\/strong><br data-start=\"10248\" data-end=\"10251\" \/>Alberto Lara M\u00e1rquez. He began studying guitar at age 8 at the conservatory. He completed professional degrees in classical guitar and flamenco guitar. Some of his flamenco guitar teachers were El Balao, Luis Balaguer or Jos\u00e9 G\u00e1lvez. He has released two records: <em data-start=\"10514\" data-end=\"10526\">Noct\u00e1mbulo<\/em> (recorded in 2019 with his flamenco\u2011jazz quintet) and <em data-start=\"10581\" data-end=\"10586\">Gea<\/em>, his second album published in 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"10627\" data-end=\"10805\"><strong data-start=\"10627\" data-end=\"10651\">Jes\u00fas Lebrero \u201cUrri\u201d<\/strong><br data-start=\"10651\" data-end=\"10654\" \/>Self\u2011taught, he began playing guitar very young in tablaos and pe\u00f1as, accompanying prominent singers \u2014 among them the great Roc\u00edo Jurado in Chipiona.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"10807\" data-end=\"11163\"><strong data-start=\"10807\" data-end=\"10831\">Juan Carlos Valverde<\/strong><br data-start=\"10831\" data-end=\"10834\" \/>Also known as \u201cCarlos el Polic\u00eda,\u201d due to his profession. He began at age 10 with Manolo Varga and Ram\u00f3n de La Isla. With his colleague Salvador Lucas, he resumed lessons with Rafael Romero. Honorary member of the Pe\u00f1a del Chato, he stands out for accompanying countless island singers \u2014 notably the sadly missed Rafael Vargas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11165\" data-end=\"11509\"><strong data-start=\"11165\" data-end=\"11180\">Paco Fontao<\/strong><br data-start=\"11180\" data-end=\"11183\" \/>He started under the guidance of his grandfather. He continued with Manolo Garc\u00eda, with whom he spent eight years completing his training. In Jerez he studied with Paco Cepero, Diego Amaya and Ni\u00f1o Jero. He has worked with Ma\u00edta vende c\u00e1, Mar\u00eda Montilla, Canelita, La H\u00fangara, Antonio Cort\u00e9s, Mar\u00eda Montilla and many others.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11511\" data-end=\"11907\"><strong data-start=\"11511\" data-end=\"11534\">Jos\u00e9 Manuel Clava\u00edn<\/strong><br data-start=\"11534\" data-end=\"11537\" \/>He began with Manuel Jero \u201cJerito,\u201d with Juani de La Isla and Jes\u00fas \u201cEl Guardia\u201d in Jerez, taking courses for dance accompaniment with the latter. He has worked with the academies Solera (Marisa Sainz), Marisma (Sonia and Pepa Pe\u00f1a) and Embrujo Flamenco (Luc\u00eda Moreno). He has shared the stage with Jes\u00fas Castilla, Susana Romero, Joaqu\u00edn de Sola, Carmen La Shica, etc.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11909\" data-end=\"12200\"><strong data-start=\"11909\" data-end=\"11922\">Javi Mota<\/strong><br data-start=\"11922\" data-end=\"11925\" \/>Guitarist from Chiclana, though strongly linked to the flamenco of La Isla. He began with Juani de La Isla, continuing his training in Chiclana and Jerez. He has been the official guitarist for Pe\u00f1a Camar\u00f3n de La Isla, Pe\u00f1a Flamenca Chiclanera and Pe\u00f1a el Chato de La Isla.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"12202\" data-end=\"12455\"><strong data-start=\"12202\" data-end=\"12217\">Carlos Cano<\/strong><br data-start=\"12217\" data-end=\"12220\" \/>He started playing guitar at 16 with his father Nono Cano, and also with Juan Manuel Fern\u00e1ndez. From the age of 20 he began playing with flamenco\u2011fusion groups. He does not work as a professional guitarist, but it is his daily passion.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"12457\" data-end=\"12460\" \/>\n<p data-start=\"12462\" data-end=\"12813\"><strong data-start=\"12462\" data-end=\"12545\">And the photographer \u2014 the creator behind the lens: Juan Antonio S\u00e1nchez Bernal<\/strong><br data-start=\"12545\" data-end=\"12548\" \/>Born in C\u00e1diz 35 years ago, he developed a serious interest in cinema at 17 years old, which led him to study Audiovisual Communication at the University of Sevilla. At that time, photography was secondary to him \u2014 a complement for mastering audiovisual language.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"12815\" data-end=\"13286\">After finishing his studies, he tried to make his way in the audiovisual world, working on several short films and a few feature films as camera operator, editor, assistant director, among others. In 2015 he had his first experience in press photography, covering the vacation period of the Diario de C\u00e1diz photographer in San Fernando. This assignment awakened interest in a branch of photography that until then had not caught his attention: <strong data-start=\"13259\" data-end=\"13283\">Flamenco Photography<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"13288\" data-end=\"13677\">In recent years he consolidated his presence in press photography \u2014 working between 2021 and 2023 for the City Council of San Fernando and contributing several pieces for the Diario de C\u00e1diz.
